Emma and her five kittens came to BARCS as owner surrenders on 9/7. The kittens are approximately 3.5 weeks old and are all on the small side, with one notably underweight kitten. Kitten #1 is a male weighing 0.94 lbs, #2 is a male weighing just 0.54 lbs with a body condition score of 3/9, #3 is a female weighing 1.02 lbs, #4 is a male weighing 0.82 lbs, and #5 is a male weighing 0.78 lbs.
At the end of their intake exams, a small amount of diarrhea was found on kitten #3's head, which tested positive for panleukopenia (parvo). Because of the positive result, Emma and all of the kittens from the household have been moved into isolation for close monitoring.
Kenso also came into the shelter with the cats and kittens from this location. Kenso has been placed into isolation for monitoring. He appeared healthy during his intake exam, but because he came from the same location as the positive kitten, he will need continued monitoring as well.
These kittens are very young and several are underweight, while the family has now been exposed to panleukopenia. They need an experienced rescue or foster placement that can provide appropriate isolation, close monitoring, supportive care, and the time they need to grow and recover. Kenso will also need continued monitoring due to his exposure.
Please share Emma, her five babies, and Kenso with rescues and fosters who may be able to help. They need a safe place outside of the shelter where they can receive the care and monitoring they need.
