Hey Hope Mongers,
As you are probably well aware, we are being reminded about both our great victories and our great losses this week. We have gone from passing the Affordable Care Act due to the hard work of 2008 to dealing with a radical brand of anti-Democratic hypocrisy known as the Tea Party that took over the House in 2010 with a phony call for “no taxation without representation.”
And on October 1st, we saw the huge success of the Affordable Care Act launch with 4.7 million hits on the White House web site and 190,000 calls with 1,200 sign ups in Kentucky and 4,000 accounts created in DC alone.
In response the GOP-controlled House shutdown the federal government and furloughed 800,000 workers that will reduce national income by $1.3 billion a week and DC loses $200 million a DAY. This is against the wishes of 81% of Americans and comes off the GOP already killing more than 678,000 public sector jobs already.
The good news is that DC has been spared so far thanks to some political hardball by Mayor Gray, as the House is allowing temporary funding of city services.
Shutdowns have happened before but this isn’t just about ideology this time...it is part of the transparent effort to subvert our democracy with unlimited obstruction to disrespect the President that America elected to REPRESENT us.
Think about it, as much as Democrats hated George W. Bush and the Iraq War, did they ever truly threatend to shut down the government until it ended? Majority Leader Reid made that point in a letter to Speaker Boehner.

Supposedly, if Speaker Boehner allowed a vote to keep funding the government without any new demands attached it would pass but this is the responsibility of every Member that has been complicit in this anti-Obamacare propaganda campaign...not just one man.
He was right about one thing though: “If you shut the government down, it’ll end up costing more than you’ll save."
And this is before we discuss the debt limit, which if the U.S. reaches on October 17th without it being lifted would mean our nation would have to default on our debt...or face outrageous ransom demands. Otherwise, Obama might risk impeachment by invoking the 14th Amendment’s passage that the “validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law… shall not be questioned.”
