Title: On-demand ride-pooling as a statistical physics problem
On-demand ride-pooling has been proposed as a transport solution, combining the convenience of personal motorized transport with the goal of reducing the environmental and social impacts of transport by reducing the number of vehicles on the streets and thus CO2 emissions, pollution and jamming. Here we will study this system as a complex interaction of many agents on a network to obtain a general understanding of how the microscopic features of request placement and routing algorithm work together to produce the macroscopic behaviour of the system. In particular we evaluate the scaling of the efficiecy of such systems with the number of vehicles, study the impact of stop-pooling and take a look at route shapes.
