Welcome to the Searchers Mailing List!  Right up front, I should probably say that I don't consider myself an expert Searcher.  I'm learning, I'm interested in finding out more from others, and I'm willing to share what I've learned myself along the way.  And I'm hoping you are too.

If you're interested in learning how to search the internet more effectively, the number one place I can recommend is http://searchlores.org.  This is the website that got me interested in improving my ability to search, and it is a treasure trove of useful information.  I first found it several years ago and I still regularly refer to it.  Unfortunately the maintainer of that site, fravia+, has passed away so it is no longer being updated.  There's a project to migrate it all to a wiki-based system and begin updating it, but I haven't seen much progress on that front yet.  So I've started my own small projects to try to keep things going, in the form of this mailing list and it's associated website http://searchers.dreamhart.org.  I hope they will be seen as companion material to any other projects inspired by fravia+'s Searchlores, and not as competition.

I've also started making a collection of resources for searchers.  It's a little sparse so far, but growing.  It can be found here:  http://searchers.dreamhart.org/links/  Suggestions for additional resources are very welcome.

My plans, such as they are at the moment, are to begin working on some articles on the basics of searching.  That material is covered in great depth on Searchlores already, but the organization of the material leaves a bit to be desired and the lack of updates is a serious problem.  Many of the search engines discussed have had changes to them, or have gone entirely defunct, though the general techniques are all still applicable.  I'd like to try my hand at writing an updated, organized, and hopefully expanded primer on the subject.

Anyway, thanks for your interest, and welcome to the Searchers Mailing List!
