After going through a lot of work to get a SmartUpdate installation
working on the Mac, I have come to the conclusion that it has been a lot
of wasted time. The only type of file that I can install is something
that has been wrapped using signtool on a Windows machine (i.e., has no
resource fork), so I used a .bin file of a StuffIt installer of my
software. Once it is installed, however, I cannot either trigger the
unpacking of the .bin file, or the executing of the StuffIt installer
through the JavaScript installation script supported by SmartUpdate.

What is going on? How can this technology not be designed to work on
the Mac as well as Windows, since it has been around since Nav 4.0

I have been unable to find a good example of any app or plugin that is
downloaded using SmartUpdate on the Mac. We think we may use a java
applet to do the unpacking after the installation, and prevent the user
from having to do any extra steps to get their software installed, but
haven't gotten that working yet.

I am sorely dissapointed in Netscape for its lack of Macintosh support
for this feature, unless I have missed something.
