So I installed it again, same thing.
I dl'ed it again, installed it again, and this thing won't open.
The install folder is there, it leaves an icon on the desktop.
I am using XP pro, regular SM runs just fine.
Anyone know why it wont work ?
check the task manager [ctrl+alt+del] and see if its
listed in applications or processes. If it is, then
end it. Also, when running SM 2, you do have SM 1
closed, right?

You need an os upgrade.
Buy yourself Windows 7.
Or make an fresh and new install of your Windows XP.
Then it will work. (*)
(*) Or maybe not, but i believe !
Holly..Do what Peter says first.
"check the task manager [ctrl+alt+del] and see if its listed in

Mike C
PS: You can also get to Task Mgr by right clicking on the Task bar.

It does not show as running, yes SM 1 is closed when I try.
And then next time I open SM 1 after I try 2, it asks if I want to make Sm
the defualt browser, as if SM2 took that spot, even tho it didn't open.
Weird.
don't want to use it that bad, I'll wait if thats the case.
don't worry, I am not about to reformat my HD just to run SM2.
Odd thing is, I can see if I get an error message or something, but it does
nothing at all.
I will uninstall it and try 1 more time and see what happsnes.
right click on the icon you use to start SM 2. Select
Properties, and then the Shortcut Tab. Now copy the
entire line of Target. Now, click on the windows start
button, then run and paste what you just copied. Then
at the end of that put a space, then a dash and the
letter P so you have something like this:
"C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -P
now click OK. This is supposed to start the SM profile
manager. Does it start? If it does, then click on the
Manage Profiles button, and create a new profile.
Start SM using that profile. Does SM start with that
new profile?
You have not installed it right over the SM1 installation, right? We
know it runs into such a problem in that case. You should try installing
into an empty folder (the default it suggests it usually empty).
Robert Kaiser
I did all that, it still does nothing, it refuses to run.
A new strange thing has happened, SM1, while it will run, will not connect
to anything.
Any page I try to load gives me the gray "failed to connect" screen, and
the browser is not off line.
Odd part is is SM1 email program thunderbird I can send and receive mail.
Xnews here obviously works.
Firefox connects just fine.
Internet explorer, which I have hated for years, also will not connect.
So my connection is good, some things will connect some won't but I'm not
sure if this all has anything to do with SM2 refusing to run.
I'm thinking either the SM2 install messed something up, or I have a virus,
I am now doing a virus scan.
SM 1 is in C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe
SM2 is in "C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe"
OK, good. In that case, please try the SeaMonkey 2.0.1 version we'll be
releasing tomorrow, it fixes a number of crashes, including one that
happens at startup on Windows when some badly formatted font files are
installed in the system. That one could be your problem, and 2.0.1
should have it solved.
Robert Kaiser
Oh you are a SeaMonkey guy, SeaMonkey is the best I will give 2.1 a try
if SM 1 isn't working, then it sounds like a firewall
issue. Try disabling your firewall, and make sure
you're not using the windows firewall.
Also, what have you got running in the background?
Anything like antivirus scanners, malware checker, etc.
Try disabling those, too.
Robert is the head of the SeaMonkey council and one of
the devs. So he takes call the crap for the problems of
SM 2.
Well it started working again for no apparent reason, then an hour or so
later it stopped, Firefox still works so I don't know whats going on.
Windows firewall has been disabled from day 1, I have another firewall but
seamonkey had had complete access through it for years.
I did install a new anti virus, it must have something to do with that, but
I tried disabling it and it still won't connect, this sucks I hope I am not
forced to start using firefox.
wow a seamonkey council, I never knew such existed.
Can I join ?
No I'm joking, I could offer very little to seamonkey, I have no idea what
makes it tick.
when I suggested you start the Profile Manager, did it?
Everything running in the background, try turning them
off.
See if anything here will help:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up
Nothing started, something on my computer must not like SM2
When you installed SM 2, did you reboot? If so, then
uninstall SM 1, uninstall SM 2, remove the SM 2
profile. Reboot. Reinstall SM 2. Anything now?
No reboot, I really don't want to uninstall SM1.
Well SM 2.1 works, so whatever was the problem with 2 I guess I don't have
to worry about it.
So I'm gonna mess around and see which one I like better, tabbed email
seems like a good idea.
