in the address bar type in about:config then click on
any warning message you should get. Now locate this
entry:

network.protocol-handler.external.mailto

once found, double click on it and change it to true.

If you don't find one, then right click on any entry
and select New, Boolean and in the first box enter the
line above and in the second put in true.

A quick note here for those using Seamonkey 2.0.2 - I had to manually
add the entry by right-clicking>New>Boolean. I copy-pasted the entry
from above, and set it to True. Now I can use Windows Live Mail as my
default email program (Sorry, I just like it better than the mail
client in Seamonkey. But the browser still rocks!)
