How do you manipulate mozilla history functions?

Hi all,

 

I'm interested in seeing if I could manipulate some of the functions of Mozilla.  I'm doing this project and would like to see if using Javascript and Java tools can manipulate functions of Mozilla, specifically the history mechanisms.  I have to be honest, I've never used Mozilla, but I know it's open source.  I wanna see if changing/adding history functions to Mozilla improves overall usability with the browser compared to a stand-alone version.
