In early 1.3 alpha, I'll be landing mscott's mail views feature.

It's basically virtual views on folders. The ones shown in the screen
shot are all pre-defined. (Views 3 - 8 are build from your labels.)
"People I Know" uses the email addresses in your personal address book.
The "Not Junk" view in the screen shot won't work until the bayesian
spam filter feature has landed, which is also coming in 1.3
You can also create your own views.
To summarize, mscott rocks.

no docs up yet (the spec needs to be moved public, too).
You create your own views with a UI that resembles the
advanced message search UI.

The feature has landed. It's not enabled on the mac yet.
There's some bugs, some of which are already logged. Query bugzilla for
details.
