Bookmarks missing! Reward for return.

Using FF 3.356 under XP Home SP3
Last week I was shopping and it was complicated so I saved 15 or 20
bookmarks, to go back later and figure out what I want.
Today the bookmarks are missing!
Under the Bookmarks dropdown, all but one entry in the bottom box is
from "Bookmark all tabs".
Above that is Recent Tags, which is empty, and
Recently Bookmarked, which had 10 entries, all more
recent than last week.
I finally tracked down the company I was interested in and one of hte
products and the star was already yellow, it was already a bookmark.
And clicking on the star told me it was in Unsorted Bookmarks!
Now Unsorted Bookmarks used to be** in my Bookmarks drop-down menu,
but it's not anymore. **(Maybe that was win98. I've only been using
XP for 3 months.)
Did I do something to get rid of it?
How do I get it back?

Oops. I meant v. 3.56.
Apparently this is normal for Firefox3. I think it's ridiculous for
them to hide every individual bookmark, especially when FF1 and FF2
included this as it should be. They had to change it to make it
worse.
I haven't applied it yet but the fix appears to be

Add Unsorted Bookmarks Folder to Bookmarks Menu.
