I have my 6.2 set to check for mail at startup and then every two
minutes. When I open Netsape Navigator browser I see the mail icon on
the bottom left with the others. However, it does not automatically
check for mail. I must manually click on this icon to open the mail
window and then I get the indication that I have mail. Why doesn't it
automatically check for mail when I open Netscape Navigator???

Mine does exactly the same thing. Very annoying, plus the sound doesn't
work either.

One I can answer. In Netscape 6.2 you have to set which windows will
open under Edit/Preferences/Appearances. You may check boxes there for
the browser and mail, or select only one of the two. There are also
options there for Composer and IM.

From what I've heard, the sound for mail in 6.2 isn't there yet. It's
suppose to be in the next "big" upgrade after the first of the year.

The more I work with 6.2 the more Outlook is becoming more friendly
looking...
My mail is set to check every minute. After my computer has been on for
1 hour or more, everything locks and even when someone has sent me mail,
it doesnn't receive anything. I have to close down the mail program and
reopen it.
I wish Netscape would respond to some of these problems as I'm sure they
are loosing customers rapidly.
ITS NOT FUN BEING UNPAID BETA TESTERS!

Why don't you use Netscape 4.X for mail till all of the bugs can be worked
out and keep 6.X for web work. Remember 6.X is completly new, and yes. It
might have been better if they hadn't released the thing..until it worked
properly. The catch is, on some pc's it works without any problems.!

Installed 6.0, 6.1 & 6.2 on three different systems and each displayed
exactly the same problem described above. Finally went back to 4.79
until 6.x is a "final product". As for the "solution" described above
- I don't really think that has anything to do with this issue.

1) Copy NsNotify.exe and NsMailUI.dll from the old communicator\programs
directory and put into the c:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape6 directory.
2) Add a shortcut to the NsNotify.exe file into your
Start\Programs\Startup menu folder.
3) Run this program from the Startup menu to test.
Right Click on the icon and do an Options\Launching\Path and
modify that line to match c:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 6.

Double click the icon to test and make sure it launches N6.21.

I think that they left this out of N6.2 because of the new feature that
allows multiple email user identities???

*Item number 2 assumes you are always online. For a dial-up acct, you
could, instead, modify your existing netscape shortcut to use a target
that is a batch file which first runs the Notify.exe and then runs the
Netscp6.exe

Except that this "solution" works.... Turned on my PC today, and there
was the little red flag! Works just great. Sure, we need a new version
of notify from Netscape, but this one works for now.

Why go through all the above rigamarole? Just leave ti where it is, and
put a shortcut to it in the startup dir. then just right click ti when
it is the system tray, and point it to the .exe you want to use.

As far as a script (.bat file) , WHY? I only have a 56k dialup connection
and it works fine. when I am off-line it just has a red X through it,
showing it cannot find the server. When I get online it connects and works
fine. With all the contortions you go through above, you're really making
it harder than it needs to be.
