A bit more detail than my last msg, as I'm seeing a pattern that I
missed before.

I can download messages reasonably well (I've got to do it one NG at a
time, but it works.)

Upon re-opening NS 6.2 mail, I get a popup window asking if I want to
compact folders, as some are over the limit for purging (or something to
that effect, I don't remember the exact wording but can note it next
time I see it if it's important.)

If I click yes, I can tell which groups are being compacted...because,
one by one, the unread-message count spirals down to nothing, as all
messages are being marked as read, apparently as a side effect of the
compaction process.

I'm willing to help trouble shoot this as necessary. Someone please do a
bug report on this. So far I've been fairly pleased by 6.2, but a
newsreader that can't accurately track which messages I've read is
pretty useless for my purposes. And it should be possible to compact the
folder without flagging messages as read, whether I've actually read
them or not.

Thanks!

BKH
