I haven't seen an adequate solution to this on the newsgroup yet. It's a
confusing problem at the very least.

I haven't been able to use Netscape webmail through the netscape mail
program in netscape 6.1. I was already a registered member of netcenter
when I downloaded Netscape 6.1 and "activated" my account. However when
I try to log into netscape mail, I simply get a "login failed" and am
prompted for my password, which I then reenter, get the same "login
failed" message.

I have the IM component running perfectly with the same screenname.

I reinstalled netscape 6 (after removing the user files) and still had
the same problem.

So I then tried registering a different screenname and had no problems -
the webmail works fine (I suppose I can use that account for junk mail now!)

Any suggestions as to why webmail doesn't work for this already created
account?

Steve

P.S. I did read somewhere that it needed to be an account on the "new
webmail system" or words to that effect, whatever that meant, but given
that I read this quite a few months ago, I assume that all the accounts
have been moved over to the new server or whatever (It certainly looks
snazzier when I use the web interface these days)

Try deleting the account (not the account, but within N 6.1) and than
make a "new" account. Sometimes it helps and yes, it's annoying
sometimes and happens to me as well. However, it always seems to work if
you log in on the page itself. (at least for me)

I still do not understand how I got Webmail to work, but it does, consistently
now.
One of the things which I had to go,was to locate the IMAP folder in
Windows/Application Data/Mozilla/Profile and delete Inbox.msf.I had to do it a
couple of times. Also, removing Netscape Webmail, and then putting it back,in NS6.1
settings does not hurt. Some people say that they can get Webmail, using
Mozilla, but it worked once(not the next day)mso it is a shaky situation.

Definition of an upgrade:it fixes some problem, while creating new ones.

This is a Feedback group - comments are passed along, but you
may not get a credible help response.

Use the Support groups for Netscape 6 help:
snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/netscape.netscape6.windows
snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/netscape.netscape6.unix
snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/netscape.netscape6.macintosh

Note that after clicking the link, you may have to go into
server properties [EDIT-Mail/News Account Settings] to enable
SSL before you can read any groups on the Secure server.
You may need to re-boot before the settings take effect.

Georg.

No solution for me. I even went as far as installing a packet sniffer and
capture all traffic between the client (netscape 6.1) and the server. The
client sends the right user name, and the right password, and the server looks
it up and replies "invalid login". The same username and password works fine
when entered in the AIM client or thru the web interface
(webmail.netscape.com).

My "solution" (a work-around actually), was to create a new netscape.com
account, and it works fine. But I would REALLY like being able to read my old
account.

Fernando
