I'm pretty new to NOF8 but finally my website is nearing completion. One
thing I can't work out though is how to set up my navbar so that the main
(first) category is non-selectable. So, for example the user could run the
mouse over a 'sport' category and select the flyout menus such as
basketball, etc, but not the main 'sport' button. I want this just to be
title and only the flyouts to be selectable. Is there a way to do this?
"Exclude from navigation" doesn't work with this as I want it to be part of
the navigation, just don't want it to be an accessible page.
I hope you guys understand what I mean and are able to suggest a method or
workaround. Thanks very much!

Thanks very much for your quick and helpful response. Unfortunately, I
wasn't able to access the document you mentioned without upgrading my
subscription account. Do you if there are other tutorials? In the meantime,
now I know it's possible I will check for anything pertaining to the
null-link you mentioned. Thanks again!

Make a custom navbar. Add your top row of buttons as external links. Give
each a name and a link to # (an empty anchor label)
Add your pages under each "button to nowhere" as appropriate.

Actually there was a post on this yesterday (21/4) in gen-discussion - see
Nav bar Query.
The answer to this was posted by Johannes - See below:
Here are instructions from an old post,
Quoting Katherine:
"In edit custom, add home as your anchor.
Then at the top Link Type, select External Link.
At New Link (where it says http//), click the arrow and scroll up to
(none)
and select.
Where you normally type an url, type #
Click Save
Click in the Name box for # (on left) and type the text you want to
display
for your placeholder
Select # on left as you would if it were an url, click Add
Select Internal Link at top and proceed building your custom menu"
....and an attached template from the previous posting using this
method.

Michael, I'm more of a motion graphics designer and don't usually design
websites but I'm really impressed with Fusion and if I get more into this
line of work I will certainly subscribe to GotFusion. Thanks again!

I've never tried that, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.
Something you should know, though, since you're talking about different
banners for different groups of pages is that the NetObjects Fusion term
'master border' is a bit misleading. To me that sounds as if it has to be
on every page of a site. If you think of a master border as a 'repeating
border element' you'll be better off. The reason I say this is that each
subsection of a site can have a different 'repeating border element' - i.e.,
a different 'master border'.
I don't know what sort of site you're setting up, but let's say you have
sections for Manhattan, Paris, Berlin, and Rome. You could have a
Manhattan Master Border, a Paris MB, a Berlin MB, and a Rome MB - each
different - but based on a general master border. Just food for thought.
Also, since you're new at this, please don't make the mistake of equating a
master border with a frame. You can have a master border in a frame if you
wish, but frames, for the most part, make your site much more complicated
than it has to be and have other disadvantages.
HTH,
Lucian

No, it won't. The regular navbar is completely automatic, which is why you
would use a custom navbar for this purpose. But the custom navbar's very
easy to use - and to update when you add or delete pages.

Great, I'll try using the master border function to set up semi-templates
for different groups of pages. Let you know how it works out. Thanks again
for saving me a lot of time!
All the best,

No pressure, just a friendly recommendation. I have gone from 0 to
self-employed in a relatively short time with NOF, and I give much of the
credit to GF's excellent support and extensive tutorial base.
As you have discovered, you will find most of what you need right here in
the forums.

I can't imagine why you want to encourage an organisation to come on to a
public newsgroup and demand payment for providing an answer to a perfectly
simple question. The people who deserve applause are the ones who provide
support here without expecting their pockets to be lined.
Not encouraging any pocket-lining, or demanding payment at all. And I get
nothing from it... I just like to recommend the things that have helped me
personally to others who may also benefit.

One, Michael was not personally 'demanding payment' for his answer. He
recommended a tutorial on gotFusion which, in this case, is only for paid
subscribers. If you look through these newsgroups, you'll find it's
extremely rare that Michael refers anyone to a paid tutorial. It was
probably just the simplest and fastest and perhaps best answer. A question
he often answers refers to Formmailer and there's an absolutely free
tutorial for it on his website if you need form help.
You will also find that Mike (Turtle) of gotFusion.com puts in many hours on
these newsgroups answering questions for free or referring people to free
tutorials. His site has numerous free tutorials.
GotFusion (Mike) and Michael Evangelista are all invaluable resources for
NetObjects Fusion users. Just look back through the posts of the past few
years.
As far as this being a 'public newsgroup' well, actually, it belongs to
NetObjects and is accessible only by subscription. It's also searchable and
the questions asked have invariably been answered literally dozens of times
in earlier posts.

If you already have your site constructed you will find that the component
will destroy your design as each time you place one in a cell it will be set
up as a standard nav component with all buttons and you will have to switch
to custom and re-align your design.
The best thing to do is you know in advance that you will be using null
links as the primary is to create the navigation right after you start the
site so that you only have the home page and your nav bar components will
then only contain one button (home).
