Sorry, but there isn't an option to hide NetNewsWire's dock icon.

Thanks, Jack.  I don't want to remove the icon from the dock but from the desktop.  So I guess I cannot remove it from the desktop.  Is that right?  Sandy

If the app is installed like most apps in /Applications, and the desktop icon is just an alias, you should be able to remove the alias from the desktop. If the desktop icon is the app itself, just move it into /Applications.
