This has begun to happen of late. My feeds will stop syncing for
several hours and the refresh button doesn't appear. Force quitting
the app and restarting seems to snap it out of its funk, but this
shouldn't be necessary.

First thing to do is check to see if there's an update on the App Store.

Next thing, if that doesn't fix it, is tell me exactly what you see in the toolbar when you expect a refresh button but don't see one. That will help me know what's going on.

I have the same issue. After using it and leaving it open for awhile
in the multitasking menu , when you go back to the app it has no
refresh button nor does it refresh. The toolbar is blank. You have to
close the app from the multitasking menu to get it working. This is on
the lastest update.

I use the app all the time, the same version that's on the App Store,
and I haven't seen this bug. I'd like to know how to reproduce it -- if
you come up with anything that seems like it might be the trigger,
please do let me know. Thanks!

I've seen this in portrait orientation, and got the refresh button to reappear by rotating to landscape. I've also seen times when the refresh button was in the middle of the toolbar in landscape orientation, rather than in the right corner. It seems that the refresh button position can get out of sync with the orientation.

Awesome -- thanks, Jim. Good theory, and it gives me something to go on.

Since I just happen to tend to use my iPhone almost exclusively in portrait mode, it would explain why I haven't seen it.

I am having this problem a lot in the last week, using latest
NetNewsWire, latest iOS4, and iPhone 3GS. There is no particular
pattern - most of the time. Don't get the reload symbol and the feeds
simply do not sync. I pretty much only view in portrait mode.

This has gotten even worse on iOS 4.2. The spinning gear and
"Downloading news items" are always on the screen. The refresh button
never appears.

Terminate the app and start it up again and it will login, sync up and
download news items. But the spinning gear is always on.
