Hi Everyone,

In addition to this mailing list, NetLogo now has an online forum for asking/answering questions, giving feedback to the NetLogo team, and discussing other NetLogo related topics. See this post for an announcement of the forum and our rationale for launching it. Periodically we are going to send a summary of activity from the forum to this email list. We plan to continue supporting this email list, but we encourage you to check the forum out and create an account if you haven't already. If you have questions or feedback, feel free to send an email to ccl-fe...@ccl.northwestern.edu

Event-based system to run code when an input widget is changed

jzkelter
Jacob Kelter

jzkelter

Sometimes a piece of code only needs to run when a parameter is changed. Currently in NetLogo, this requires either (1) running the code every time through the go loop even when it isn’t needed or (2) keeping track of the previous value, comparing it to the current value, and then, if there was a change, running the code.

Hi there,

I was hoping to start a conversation about adding visualizations to netlogo models to help people notice certain patterns and events in the model.

Analyzing BehaviorSpace results with PivotTables

I always use Excel’s PivotTable tool to analyze results of BehaviorSpace experiments – even though it is far from flawless, this tool lets you see and graph basic results within a few seconds. It is also very easy to learn. (There are similar tools in other spreadsheet software.)

In 2017 we published an article on (a) making NetLogo models execute faster, and (b) designing models for execution speed. Especially, it tells users how to find the places in their code where execution is slowed down and then fix them, sometimes reducing execution time by orders of magnitude. Most of the article is still relevant to current versions of NetLogo, so if your model seems slower than it should be, take a look.
