What do you guys think of getting a space or restaurant to host the bollywood night and party, and have people buy their own food and drinks.
We can keep the tix price super low, like $5, and I dont think people Expect food.
I was talking it over with my husband, and he was saying we never had dinner included in any events we have attended in austin, unless we paid at least $25-50/ ticket.

Just a thought. :)

I think we should go ahead and reserve Riata for June 1st.

The issue with a restaurant, is that if we are taking over their entire space, they are going to want some type of minimum guarantee. Unless it's a venue like Chola.

Thoughts?

I agree with Sumina. I still think we can order food and make it fairly reasonable, even charging $12-15 dollars and being within budget.

Yes- i definitely think we should reserve riata.
And then would we do catering?
We had the fun idea of getting a food truck like the naan truck up there for a few hours.
And what about alcohol?

Sorry- once again, just brainstorming.

Deepa, if you want to reserve the venue for June 1st, I can get Robin to cut you a check for $175.

Well, now that we have the venue and the date, we can def talk to the various food trailers and see if they can/will be good with coming up that far north. Naan Sense, Nomad Dosa, Halal Guys, Conscious Cravings are a few desi food trucks I can think of off the top of my head. It will also depend if the Riata is okay with it as well, but the food truck guys should have an idea of that.

Yay!

Thanks.

Food will be an attraction for people for sure
Free food will be awesome!
Just a quick point on this: Do you guys want to approach a few restaurants to sponsor food (either proper food or appetizers). In exhange, we'd give them some publicity (which will need to be thought off).

Someone will obviously have to take the lead on this sooner than later.

With reference to our last meeting, here is the contact of the guy at Inchin's Bamboo Garden restaurant in Round rock
Varaprasad Challa
Prasad and his 2 other cofounders are based out of Houston but stay in Austin Fri, Sat and Sun. They started this restaurant a few months back, and are looking to grow their business.

Regarding Riata, I called them up earlier today. They need 2 checks (for $175 each - one is fee and the other is deposit) at the time of reservation. They will cash the fee right away. If we cancel this in future we should get the deposit back but the lady I talked to today at the Riata office wasn't sure about the fee. She said I will need to call back on Monday and talk to Jenny to see what will happen to the fee if we cancel.

Should I go ahead with the Riata reservation? How should I handle the 2 checks?
