I found a video on youtube where someone had done this so I figured I would buy VorpX and give it a try. It seems to be working very well with Skyrim! The steps I took are. In Riftcat. Enable fake sensor In Vorp X Create exclusions for Riftcat, Vridge and Revive.

Edit 4/2. I played around with settings last night and put my resolution to max in riftcat and went with 60fps. I dropped the render scale down to 100% and put my bitrate at 14. I played skyrim for about 3 hours with out any awaiting vr game stream crashes. I used VorpX's 1280 x 1024 suggestion in the skyrim launcher and used 2x antiailiasing there. It seems to me that the awaiting vr game stream crash in riftcat has more to do with renderscale than anything else.

The trick is to ignore steamVR and run games via Generic VR mode in VorpX. Via extended display and then send game window to your headset. You lose headtracking but in cinema mode you still have amazing G3D with great performance.

Just a brief follow up: Might well be related to graphics memory with your GTX980. I just tested Fallout 4 and on Ultra settings with Geometry 3D the overall memory required in SteamVR mode would exceed the 4GB of GPU memory on your card by 500MB at a fairly low res of 19201080. That would become even worse with higher resolutions.

Your GTX980 only has 4GB, which almost certainly is not enough for modern games at cranked up detail settings without maxing out memory. G3D in itself requires more memory, rendering to the headset via SteamVR even more, so assuming that you hit some memory limited with your card in SteamVR mode is a reasonable theory.

Oddly, I found vorpx with pimax needs less hand holding in setup for certain games than the Rift-S. Half-life 2 was a bit of a nightmare under the rift-s. There was a convoluted start-up procedure I had to maintain otherwise it would CTD. On first successful launch of HL2 under the rift-s, I also had to do a directVR scan and dial in some settings. Via the pimax, it launches no problem and works right out of the box. Maybe there was push-pull issue previously with oculus home and steamVR wrestling for control.

Finally, if vorpx is your main port of call for your HMD, I would recommend the deluxe audio strap mod for the pimax. It makes quickly getting in and out of the headset (or otherwise peaking at real world surroundings) for misc tasks (like finding your keyboard/mouse/gamepad or misc windows tasks) easier and is a nice quality of life improvement.

If all is ok you should see the FS2020 home screen but some parts are out of view
this is ok and a limitation of full VR in vorpx but I can live with it. In the cockpit emulted trackir will be active.
For now yYou can switch to monitor view (edge peek) by clicking the mouse wheel.

If you still have it, you should check it again. The FS-world does have depth, and for what I see it looks quite allright. I just flew over NY everything maxed to ultra, no problem. All buildings, bridges lakes have depth and show in 3d not 2d. Maybe the cockpit shows a bit larger than MSFS VR does, but it at least now I can read the dials and knobs without having to fiddle with supersampling But the colors, the sun reflections on the plane, wings. I have never seen this quality in MSFS VR, Also a plus is that it simulates trackIR. Until MSFS 2020 comes with a better VR solution, I stick with this one for sure.

my cpu is i7 7700k @ 4.5ghz, 32gb 3600mhz ram, gpu is 3080ti no oc. msfs loads ok on its own but with vorpx it crashes just before the menus appear. using a quest 2. i was using the vorpx default profile for msfs (flightsimulator.exe).

Sorry to hear that. Do you see the attach ing popup when launching fs2020. Also if you use update 10 beta make sure you don t miss the firewall message (my AV shows a notification to allow traffic to ms probably for debug). I also use the default profile for msfs. Check if you have all latest Version of all software. Perhaps try with oculus link instead of virtual desktop. That also works but for some reason the trackir response is too sensitive, making the plane shake all the time, and I dont like turbulence

Its the immersion that counts maybe its the full screen and the fact your head movements react the same way on the scenery as in real vr? If you fly over NY you can see the buildings below and they are not flat as in a 2d movie so the vorpx engine must do something with the scenery. Looking at the cockpit, the 3d effect is less than Real vr but it s much better than looking on a 2d monitor or suffering ctd s and stuttering all the time when using native vr. If Asobo could make the scenery look like vorpx and enhance 3d in the cockpit like they do in vr that would be perfect.

For the ones having ctd issues, maybe check if dx12 beta isn t active. It does not work with dx12 beta, I did not have a. Ctd but the vorpx hooking did not work. Also check if computer isn t overclocked
Too much. I cannot believe this only works on my pc.

If you are like me though, sometimes you just want to crash on the couch and play your games without a VR headset. Vorpx is an amazing program that allows you to tweak a lot of settings for playing 1st person shooters in VR.

Been trying to run VorpX with my Oculus Quest 2, but every time i launch a game it says that the Quest 2 is not detected. I have it connected via cable and i have the Oculus program running. The only way to connect my Oculus it seems, is to run it as a SteamVR headset, but that causes controller issues so i avoid it. How do i run it as an Oculus headset?

Thanks for the Reply. I used ALVR initially, but there is too much screen tear when lag occurs. Seems Virtual Desktop is maintained more frequently and has better integration with Quest (launch straight from desktop in Headset without going through as many steps).

Also, take a look at the latest release of ALVR. Maybe the controllers work better with that application. ALVR was branched by a different dev, and it has interesting new features such as Fixed Foveated Rendering, and now accurate controller angles.

I was curious to do a Vampire the Masquerade playthru and maybe even Deus Ex 1 and 2 but im pretty certain you want a keyboard in those games, but taking headset on and off seems like a hassle. is there a VR program with a hotkey we can press to give us access to a whole keyboard? I doubt this exists, just wanted to check lol

All the solutions to press keyboard while in vr require you to have hmd camera or webcam pointing to keyboard along with any free or paid vr overlay apps. Its a hassle to set up and you would eventually decide to use it blind rather than setting it all up each playthrough.

One great thing about vorpX is Ralph who made the program is a huge fan and advocate for VR, meaning he is constantly bring new updates. These can include new game profiles, tweaks to how the program runs and fixing issues within current profiles. So, the program is going to keep bringing official updates, as it has over its six years in existence.

vorpX is something you have to purchase a licence for, but for me the it is worth every penny. The program will cost you 28.99 (+vat), which is not bad at all. Considering you can bring a huge number of your favourite games into VR. As well as adding this option to your VR library it also supports Ralph and all the hard work he still is and has put into vorpx.

This is weird, because in May it was working still (at least before I started Skyrim again in September) and I guess I am one of the very few that has an issue launching MO with vorpx since there is absolutely nobody else making topics with that same issue.

The game is quite a resource hog already without stereo rendering. If you use so many mods that you cant handle them without an extra organizer program, you almost certainly have too many mods installed for vorpX to run at a decent frame rate anyway.

As difficult as it may seem to you if you modded Skyrim for years, try to follow this rule: choose the 5-10 mods that you positively cant live without. Check each one of them for its impact on performance. Sort out the ones that reduce FPS. Enjoy Skyrim in VR.

Having done a fair bit of Oblivion modding myself back in the day, I totally get that you love Skyrim the most with dozens of mods installed, but honestly: just get rid of the organizer you are using if it causes issues. No mod(s) can be important enough to not play Skyrim in VR just because some mod organizer program does odd things.

For whatever reason, switching the graphics in FSX to 1024x768x32 did the trick. It was truly that simple. Once I did that, I could push the display to the Rift with Win-Shift-Arrow where before I was just getting a black screen when I did.

I watched a lot of videos about VorpX before I bought it and I can tell you that videos do not properly show what it looks like in the headset. All the videos I saw, even ones that were negative, couldn't properly show the problems they were experiencing. Videos definitely make it look better than it actually is. That's true for every video trying to show VR in 2D, but it is even more so when dealing with VorpX.

VorpX is a driver injector that can turn certain flat-screen games into stereoscopic 3D games. The process it uses is game-specific, so you have to do some research to see if a game you want to play is supported at all. It primarily works with games that use DirectX 9 - DirectX 11 and some older OpenGL titles. More recent games that use OpenGL or Vulkan won't work at all.

To find out if a game is supported, check the officially supported game list. If it's not there, search through the User Profiles section of the forum, which is a list of games the community has gotten to work. Indeed, it turns out that there are a lot of games that work with VorpX to some degree or another. The developer continues to add support for more games fairly regularly, so the list will continue to grow over time.

Most games require tweaking both in the game settings and the VorpX settings to get a good experience. If you hate tinkering around with settings like this, you are probably not going to enjoy using VorpX that much. The good news is that once you get everything setup, you never have to do it again for that game. But while you're first getting started and testing things out, this can be a trying experience.
