FUNCTION: To assist in the day to day running of the Network Operations
team. To offer 3rd line support for corporate customers, to administer
managed network security solutions. To provide network advice to other
parts of Netcom including product development, customer services, sales
and the installations team.

REPORTING TO: Senior Network Administrator/Computer Operations Manager

SUMMARY

Working as part of a technically competent team of Network Administrators
maintaining Netcom Internet's UK WAN and LAN backbone networks together
with all permanent customer connections. This challenging role will
involve exposure to various capacity leased lines, frame relay, ethernet
FDDI and HSSI connections and a wide variety of networking hardware from
Cisco, Extreme, Digital Link and others.

This position will offer the correct candidate an opportunity to develop
their networking/Internet skills and career in a challenging and fast
moving environment.

In order to fulfil this role you will need the following skills:

An ability to learn and develop your own abilities.

A strong interest in technical aspects of the Internet

A solid understanding of the basic working of IP

A strong interest in and some knowledge of routed networks

Solid problem solving skills

Good communication skills

An ability to work as part of a team

Highly desirable skills:

Experience of Unix

A working knowledge of DNS

An understanding of RIPE procedures

Cisco router configuration experience

Any telecoms experience

Any experience of Internet security issues
