Hello,

I've been a Netcom shell user since the days of 'gator' (remember that?).
I've also created several unmoderated Usenet newsgroups over the years and in
general have a good working knowledge of the Internet and of unix, but I'm no
unix guru by any means -- I only learn what I need to learn as I go along.

Anyway, I have an interest in creating several moderated newsgroups in the
alt.* hierarchy. Creating the newsgroups is no big deal. However, I have
little knowledge on how to actually process the submitted posts -- what
software has been written to make life easier, etc.

For example, I assume that as the moderator, posts will get e-mailed to me.
So, how do I best repost them (after approval and possibly with some hand
editing of the Subject: line)? Is there some automated way to do this?

I would appreciate it if anybody here who's moderated a Usenet mailing list
from a Netcom shell account will contact me, or let me know who is doing this
so I can contact them.

Much thanks!

Jon Noring

i haven't done it, but here's a suggestion: contact the moderator for
some other moderated newsgroup (misc.taxes.moderated comes to mind) and
ask that moderator for suggestions...

FWIW, I noticed a few possibly relevant posts in news.groups: "Moderated
Newsgroups FAQ" (reposted bi-weekly); "FAQ: Moderating USENET Newsgroups
and STUMP" (Message ID: <1998062705...@manifold.algebra.com>);
and "ANNOUNCEMENT: Test Drive new WebSTUMP, moderators' Web interface"
(Message ID: <1998062705...@manifold.algebra.com>). The last
two might be less relevant, especially the last one, since you're
seeking a shell-based solution. Good luck.
