Hi,

netbox offers the feature to combine switches to clusters / stacks.

But the interface names of the secondary interfaces are not renamed. An example:

If I stack two Cisco 3850 Switches, each with interfaces Gi1/0/[1-48], the secondary switch in netbox still has the interfaces Gi1/0/... In reality the stack has interfaces Gi1/0/... and Gi2/0/...

Is it possible to update interface names with the switch number in the stack automatically?

Hi, Jupp I brought this topic also up.

It was declined reason is that staking naming is to different across models and vendors.

Would like to have after creating a stack or switch to poll via snmp or script live names to auto aligne the interfaces

But I think this will never happen

So it’s manual labor to rename interfaces accordingly

In addition to what was already said, bulk renaming interfaces on a switch isn't terribly hard, and it allows for regex matching.

Not automatically, but there's a bulk rename function which in a single operation will update (say) Gi/1/0/ to Gi2/0/.  It's easiest to do this *before* stacking them.

Go to the device; go to the interfaces tab; check all the interfaces (or a subset); click the "Rename" button at the bottom.  This takes you to the bulk rename page, which has "Find" and "Replace" boxes.
