Hi Netbox Team,

I was using Netbox, got the below error

could not connect to server: Connection refused
Is the server running on host "localhost" (127.0.0.1) and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
could not connect to server: No route to host
Is the server running on host "localhost" (::1) and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

So I've tried to restart postgres with reference to google search link.

Used the command - sudo service postgresql start

after passing this command I am getting the following error - FATAL: Ident authentication failed for user "netbox"

Django Version: 2.2.10

"Ident authentication" is when the postgres connection is authenticated by the userID of the originating user over a the unix domain socket, rather than by username and password (which is what Netbox does).

This means you probably haven't updated the postgres authentication configuration as per the instructions here:

https://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation/1-postgresql/#installation

If you tell us the exact operating system you're running under, and the postgres version, and show the contents of your pg_hba.conf and postgresql.conf, somebody may be able to help you.

When you say something "was working fine till yesterday", what was that - Netbox? Postgres? Something else?

Where did you get the postgres 9.6 package from? It's possible it's reading config files from a different location, like /usr/local/etc

pg_hba.conf :-

That bit looks fine

postgresql.conf:-

That bit looks fine (it should default to 'localhost' which is what we want)

If you type "telnet localhost 5432", does it connect or is the connection refused?

What about /opt/netbox/netbox/netbox/configuration.py? The DATABASE section should look something like this:
