Hello,

We're relying heavily on NetBox to track devices and IP addressing for more than a hundred sites, and it's working great for that purpose.

As I understand it, asset/inventory management is out of scope for NetBox*, which leads me to ask what NetBox users are using for asset/inventory management?

The kind of use case I have is for tracking the lifecycle of disks:

- track purchase order/serial numbers for disks
- know when a disk was ordered
- know when a disk was shipped to a site
- know when a disk was put into Production
- know when a disk needs replacement
- know when a disk was decomissioned
- know when a disk was destroyed

I see that there are plenty of open source solutions available for this, but I'm interested to know if there are any solutions that integrate particularly well with NetBox or avoid too much overlap with NetBox.

Thanks,
Matt

Check out Snipe-IT. Great FOSS product, complements Netbox wonderfully.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for pointing me to that tool, looks pretty good!
Did you do any customization in order to integrate it with netbox of some sort, like linking assets?

Rgds,
Simon

Hi Simon,

No, we have not directly integrated either of them - there's enough separation of concerns that we haven't found a need to do so. The things Netbox does well, Snipe-IT does not, and vice versa.

That being said both projects have great APIs and you could probably create whatever integrations you need with a bit of elbow grease...

Hi Benjamin,

Agreed - One capable web programmer should be able to adjust whatever we need there :)
Since I only had a 10 mins lookaround in the Demo site, let me ask you a quick question here again:
I'm assuming you are using Snipe for network equipment along with other stuff maybe. Moreover can I build stacked switches like Juniper Virtual-Chassis or link child devices to parents, such as power supplies and uplink modules?

Thanks,
Simon
