do you mean you have a cat5 ethernet cable coming into your home
direct, and windows connects via ppoe (per to per over ethernet)?
i dont think this is supported but you can get yourself a router that
will connect and give you a few ports of live ethernet that connect
directly. this is the system here in bulgaria.
..or, do you have a telephone line and a modem of some kind? if so you
may need to either change settings on the modem by connecting and
typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser. if this does not bring you the
webpage of your modem settings, try changing the last 2 digits to .0.1
or .1.11 or check the manual for your modem.
elsewise, change your modem for one that is external powered and can
hold a permenent connection to your isdn, adsl, cable, fibre, etc.
your computer must be connected via ethernet cat5 (a sqare plug a bit
larger than a US telephone jack)
all in all its best to have your own router that has a firewall if
needed and can store your connection details, login, password, dns
server, and can automaticly restart the connection if for any reason
the line is dropped (you dont want this in the middle of your nice new
debian install)
good luck, and you should get there in the end. if all else fails try
netbootin instead, but
netboot.me is VERY nice. i am running via it
now on a crap wyse winterm s10 thats about the size and power of a
pocket calculator and slitaz is running faster that any windows
intstal on a dual core ghz pc.
