I noted their were options to boot from floppy, CD or USB Drive...
Is there a reason why it is not suggested as a possibility of booting
from your main hard disk (saves having to remember a CD or USB
drive)....I currently use GRUB4DOS as my boot manager for OS and
utilities (IMG/ISO) and I just thought it would be nice to have a
netboot option...

It seems that one could in Grub4DOS (and others) add an entry to boot
the netboot.me ISO...Is there a reason this possibility is not
mentioned? .Is it because the ISO emulation would not work once you
leave Grub4DOS (does it need too once its booted) or is that netboot
would overwrite my system files in some way???

Forgive me if this question seems a bit dum I have only just come
across the concept of net booting and therefore lack any knowledge..

Cheers

Damon

Hi Damon,

As I'm not the maintainer of netboot.me I can make no remarks about why the idea of booting from grub4dos on your hard disk or the idea of using the bootloader on your hard disk to boot netboot.me isn't mentioned though it seems like a fine idea for sysadmins or people that want more flexibility in their boot environment.  If you'd like to see a mention I suggest filing a feature request for it.

On to the specifics on booting a netboot.me iso in grub4dos.  I'm not familiar with the grub4dos environment but  I don't see any reason why you wouldn't have success as the image is small and doesn't require a fancy environment.  Some people here have had success booting iso's and the netboot.me iso should follow the same process.  You could also consider a custom gPXE build that point to the netboot.me site as well.  Netboot.me and anything you boot from it operate entirely in RAM so your system disk would be untouched while you were in the netboot.me environment unless you explicitly mounted your system disk.

If you have any other questions regarding netboot.me, feel free to write the group and we'll help you out.

Best,
Josh
