The3DEXPERIENCE for Startups offer is an affordable, multi-year program for hardware startups. It provides full access to the functionalities of CATIA, SIMULIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA and other industry-leading product development solutions at a discount so you can focus on your projects without worrying about your budget.

John Kitchingman: Mikkel, can you explain the history of the program and how it has evolved into what it is today?

Mikkel Marott: The first iteration of the startup program came about in 2014. It was started by Greg Smith, who was then director of the SOLIDWORKS for entrepreneurs. Greg spent a lot of time working with venture capitalists and small startups with big ideas. He knew what made these companies tick and recognized the support they needed to get their idea to market and scale it up.

Yes. I think we have so much industry experience that we can share. We work with some of the biggest names in industry, so if we can share some of that then we can help create inspirational roadmaps and ensure every one of our startup customers has a better chance of success.

We help hardware startup founders turn their napkin sketches into physical products by giving them free access to SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD and other world-class product development solutions. In addition to the software, the program offers free training and co-marketing resources to help hardware startups succeed.

SOLIDWORKS for Startups Program works with the world's leading accelerators and incubators. Startups affiliated with one of the sponsored organizations receive preferential consideration when applying.

There are four 3DEXPERIENCE Labs and each has its own flavor. The Boston lab has the largest FabLab and is influenced by SOLIDWORKS, the 3DS brand known for its 3D CAD design software. The lab at 3DS headquarters in Velizy, France, has a tight relationship with management, R&D and mentors. In Pune, India, the lab aims to accelerate and support the startup ecosystem for new frugal innovations. The Munich lab has close ties to 3DEXCITE, which offers immersive marketing solutions for interactive storytelling and data commercialization.

Bartel, who designed the space using 3DS programs HomeByMe and CATIA, set up the Munich Lab to have a large open space, working space, and a FabLab that has 3D printers, laser cutters and other tools startups can use to bring their ideas to life.

Opening the Munich Lab creates opportunities for both startups and Dassault Systmes employees, who are able to devote up to 10% of their time to mentoring members of the program. Employees can also use the FabLab to realize their own personal projects.

The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab from Dassault Systmes is a new open innovation laboratory that merges collective intelligence with a cross-collaborative approach to foster entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurs, makers, and innovators everywhere are invited to join the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab a community of intelligent, creative and passionate people, focused on positively impacting society, through the creation of disruptive, groundbreaking projects. Dassault Systmes is committed to helping them bring those projects to life, with the hopes of unleashing further progress and growth for tomorrows world.

Yes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab is a new initiative of Dassault Systmes. But, the company has a long standing history in supporting innovation with leading 3D virtual technologies. Combining existing initiatives that yielded such disruptive projects such as the Living heart, BioIntelligence, and Rennes Metropolis and establishing the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab was a natural evolution. With one global lab, Dassault Systmes can focus its efforts and enable innovators everywhere to look at the world from a new perspective.

No, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab is more than just a startup incubator. The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab is an open innovation laboratory aimed at transforming society collaboratively and socially. However, as part of the overall initiative, Dassault Systmes has also launched a specific accelerator program for startups that will help facilitate and nurture disruptive product innovation. Each project may have a startup incubated by the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, but it is not essential. Thus, a project may also exist without having a startup (ie. The Open Source Drones project).

Startup having a breakthrough idea falling within the scope of the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab can submit a new project. Thus, the startup incubator is an important component of the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab.

Selected startups will gain access to the full 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including the full breadth of Dassault Systmes brands integrated on the platform. From CATIA and SOLIDWORKS for creation, design and system engineering, from DELMIA to SIMULIA for manufacturing and simulation... Exalead or Netvibes for information management...

Yes, your project should fall within the topics we have chosen.

We have divided the 3DEXPERIENCE Labs interest points into 6 topics or themes.

You can read more about these topics on each dedicated theme page

The Intellectual Property (IP) of each party is preserved during the duration of the program (and after). This is detailed in the contract signed between both parties. However, Dassault Systmes will ask for the rights to communicate on the experiences and projects of the startups IP.

No, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab does not provide any permanent accommodation space to startups, but we have a dedicated temporary space. We can host teams for coaching and training in our Lab, at the Dassault Systmes Campus.

If you are a startup and you meet all the qualification criteria for the program, you may apply directly by completing the form.

If you represent a research laboratory, a maker, an innovation leader, please contact us at: Mkt.3DEXP...@3ds.com

No. If you are an independent professional without any legal form, you do not fall within the framework of the incubation program for startup.

However, you may participate in some community projects that call upon independent designers, makers, inventors, etc.

The SOLIDWORKS for Startups Program does two incredible things to help accelerate the growth of early-stage companies. First, they remove barriers by providing access to world-class design and collaboration software. Second, they give us a venue to network and share resources with other founders who understand the unique challenges of launching hardware products.

Dassault Systmes has been, and continues to be, a great partner. The SOLIDWORKS for Startups Program gave us access to critical resources and support when they were the most needed. This allowed us to use the best tools for the job from day one.

Thousands of hardware startups benefit from our program each year. Freedom One Life joined the SOLIDWORKS for Startups program back in 2019. Since then they have disrupted the powered wheelchair market with the Series 5, one of the most robust and comfortable power chairs ever created. Watch the video to learn more.

The recent 3DEXPERIENCE World 2024 in Dallas, Texas, brought together a vast community of engineers, entrepreneurs, startups, manufacturers, industry leaders, and vendors to learn, establish new friendships, share knowledge, and facilitate innovation faster with SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works. 3DEXPERIENCE World is always a fun and engaging venue for forging productive business relationships while discovering more about the power of integrated and cloud-based product development tools.

You will get the opportunity to share best practices for startup pitches, strategies to gain funding, and much more by rubbing elbows with other startups just like you who are working hard to get their product to market.

SOLIDWORKS for Startups helps early-stage tech and hardware startups by providing a range of free resources, including SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD software, training, and co-marketing opportunities. The program is designed to assist startups in bringing products to market faster and more efficiently by leveraging the power of SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD and the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform for design, simulation, and data management.

The typical startup package includes a host of tools for product designers including a set number of SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD and 3DEXPERIENCE platform licenses, along with access to the SOLIDWORKS community and numerous training resources. It is an excellent way for your tech startup to access high-end design software at a reduced cost.

To qualify for free SOLIDWORKS CAD software, a startup needs to be designing and building a physical product with an aim to sell it in the market. The eligibility criteria also include the age and revenue of the startup. Visit our SOLIDWORKS for Startups application page to learn more.

Our passion is helping you overcome typical startup struggles in a way that fits your budget by providing affordable access to industry-leading product design and development software and helping you get connected to a larger community of designers, engineers, and manufacturers.
