With so much money to be made via playoffs, championships, etc.,
the rules are bent, if not blatantly broken. The spirit of the
game is forgotten. A wrong call could mean a trip to the Super
Bowl, or a long trip home. Morally, it isn't right. But, that's
how the game is played.
The most successful colleges in sports are the ones constantly
in trouble with the NCAA. That's how money is made. Big name
schools are the ones who rake in the TV revenue and go to bowl
games. Sports make a lot of money for schools.
As Vince Lombardi said, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only
thing."
