Why don't we change the name of this net to mailing list?!?!
That is all it is. How exciting.

Unless "NOTHING" means you didn't like the content, Stu, your theory about
unforwarded net.wobegon postings is correct. Looking through a pile of old
mail (I get these things as digests), I see I saved an article dated Thu
Sep 20 posted by teklds!gk entitled "End of the Trail" by Garrison Keillor,
which is a posting of the article about the capture of the last five cigarette
smokers in America (which I believe was published in The Atlantic Monthly).
This is a concrete example, but I remember several more from this summer:
discussions about the 10 year anniversary show, wistful comments about how we
wish the show wasn't on tour (during the early summer, when reruns were being
rebroadcast), questions about Wireless. Heavens, even I posted some stuff this
summer.

Anybody know how to find out if sites are not forwarding net.wobegon?

Other people's comments about the difficulties encounted with
"net.music.classical" strike me as irrelevant--why bother discussing it at
length in net.music: can't somebody just go off and create the new newsgroup
and then tell people about it? It's happened before. There is clearly demand
(==enough traffic) for net.music.folk, and it would be a findable place for new
usenet people to find this topic if they're interested.

Anyway, back to the topic of the newsgroup: my schedule lately hasn't allowed
me to be near the clock radio at the right times on Saturday, which is mildly
disappointing--got to remember to ask to turn on the car stereo if I'm out
riding around with friends. Anyhoo, I got *2* copies of the Christmas
Wireless--anybody need one? (first letter asking for it and containing a
USMail address will get it) For you folk music types, it does have records
and cassettes of APHC regulars and guests. For cat lovers, unfortunately
some of my favorites of Bertha's advertised products are still not available
(ankle deodorant, elm bark panelling and slip-covers), so I guess I'll have
to wait until I can drive to The Dales.

Abstract: sexuality of mailing lists.

As far as I know, mailing lists have no sex and no sexual behavior--they are
propagated by fission, or by spontaneous generation, or by cuttings. So,
asking to be put on a "female mailing list" will probably do you no good--there
are no mailing lists which are female or male. I, however, get the giggles
whenever I see this, so by all means, keep posting things with this title.

However, there does exist a mailing list about feminist issues. All sexes
of people allowed (I don't moderate it). Maybe this is what people are
seeking?

Here's a giggle for L. Chabot!

J. McMullan--please add me to the mailing list, now that I realize that it's
not a women-only enterprise. BTW, my attempts to mail to you directly failed,
even an 'r' to your own posting; have others had this problem?
