Years ago we bought a thing called a
"kalimba" at some museum or world's
fair. The blurb said that while the
model we have in not "authentic
african" it is based on a traditional
african instrument. It's polished
wood with about a dozen metal reeds
in front of the sound hole of a box
shaped vaguely like a zither (reduced
to 1/10 life size). Sounds like the
same thing.
