So, here is some questions on the matter. I would appreciate it
if you give me any answers to them.
Thanks in advance!
1. If they get the missing sources, can it be installed without
severe problems ? Then, can you send me the missing files ?
(Here is the list of missing header files:
/usr/include/sys/
ecreg.h, emreg.h, ilreg.h, mbuf.h, protosw.h,
socket.h, socketvar.h, unreg.h
/usr/net/sys/net/
css.h, dmc.h, ec.h, un.h, vv.h
)
2. If you are using tcp/ip on 2.9bsd, can you tell me about
its performance and its overhead ?
And what type of device is used on it ?
3. What's the most recent version of 2.9bsd tcp/ip in public domain ?
4. Where can they get the source, and how ?
Thanks.

We ran into the same problem about a month ago. We hadn't bothered with the
network stuff, and when I tried it I found we were missing these files. I've
tried mailing Berkeley but had no reply.

Would some kind 2.9 person be prepared to send them to me too? I'd be
most grateful if they'd e-mail me.
Thanks,

I've heard that the original 2.9BSD from Berkeley was incomplete
and not really fully implemented.
I suggest getting a copy of Keith Bostic and Co.'s version of
2.9BSD (seismo 2.9BSD). It has a very good (complete) version
of TCP/IP. I had two 2.9BSD/CSS systems networked and talking
very nicely with 4.[23] systems.
Keith and Co. have done a great job with 2.9BSD!!! Porting
4.2 networking programs to 2.9BSD/CSS is very easy.
contact Keith Bostic seismo!keith to get the distribution.
(I believe you have to send a copy of your license).
Hope this helps.

If anyone wants to send me mail, I will be glad to send them the
missing files. Just list the ones you need. On the other hand,
the networking as originally distributed doesn't work, and it takes
a fair amount of effort to make it work.

It's performance is quite good. Right now it runs on 4-5 ethernets,
Pronet and a few other things.
> 3. What's the most recent version of 2.9bsd tcp/ip in public domain ?
2.9BSD has never been in the public domain.
> 4. Where can they get the source, and how ?
If you want to run networking on a PDP, you have 3 choices, that I
know of.
-- the BRL gateway software, which turns a PDP into a packet
passer.
-- Ultrix-11 from DEC, a V7 based kernel with 4.2 networking.
-- The CSS/Harvard distribution, available from Harvard and
myself.
