BUT WHY OH WHY DID THEY NOT LET HIM SCORE A TOUCHDOWN?!!?? TWO BEAR TD'S WERE
ON FIRST AND GOAL FROM THE ONE (MCMAHON SNEAK AND WM PERRY). PAYTON SHOULD
GET THE BALL ON FIRST DOWN (AND SECOND DOWN IF NECESSARY) AND MAYBE EVEN ON
THIRD DOWN IF HE STILL HADN'T MADE IT IN THE END ZONE. ESPECIALLY WITH THE
GAME OUT OF REACH LIKE IT WAS. I KNOW THE PATS WERE KEYING ON HIM BUT NO
WAY COULD THEY HAVE STOPPED HIM FROM SCORING FROM ONE YARD OUT!
PS: Buddy Ryan to become Eagle head coach. The papers say it's likely the
Bears will abandon the 46-defense (Ditka's not crazy about it) and go to a
3-4 with Perry as the nose tackle. I would like to see the Bears use the 4-3
with McMichael and Perry as DTs (takes two blockers for each of them!) and
Hampton and Dent, naturally, at DE.

I think that if Walter had gotten a Superbowl touchdown, it would have been
tainted. I am sure that he would have wanted to get a touchdown against
the Pats when the Pats were still in the game, and his points would have
made a real difference. But to give him the ball on the 1 yard line with
the score 30-3 (or worse) just to get him a touchdown is not Walter's style.
Yes, I think he can be disappointed for not scoring, but he can be proud that
he didn't take a gimme just to get one.
I think a more fitting tribute to Walter Payton would be giving him the game
ball, which he deserves. Besides, unless the Bears pull a 49ers, Walter
might get a few more chances to get a "real" SuperBowl Touchdown!
