MEP is a mail package which allows users to selectively
control their mail. How many times have you wished you
didn't have to forward all of your mail someplace. With
MEP, you can request that mail coming only from some place
<x> be forwarded to place <Y> etc. (Useful if you want to
keep receiving important mail while your away or if you want
to keep receiving mail from person x, but not anyone else.)
How many times have you said "I wish I had that file on my
machine FOO!", MEP allows you or anyone else to run a res-
tricted set of commands through mail and sends the stdout
back to you. Have you ever had people you DON'T want to
hear from? MEP has a twitlist system. Mail on the twitlist
will be discarded and you will be issued a mail messaged
indicating the twit(s) tried, and the dear twits will be
mailed a friendly message from you at no extra charge. A
log can be kept of all incoming mail addresses. Return
receipts are handled. Return receipts are mail messages
which a sender can request because he wants to know that you
actually receive his mail.
MEP requires a Unix system running some mailer which allows
mail to be sent through a program as input -- this makes BSD
Unix the logical choice. However, you could use Sys V so
long as you force fed MEP it's mail BEFORE the user got to
it. We are working on a System V version.
