I agree with the points made by Greg Woods and Jeff Sargent as to
the basic purpose of net.singles. As I recall, the goal of this
group, was more-or-less to be a mutual support forum for those
people on the net whose lack of MOTAS (Members of the Appropriate
Sex, for those of you who are new here) borders on the chronic.
Most of the contributions I've seen lately have been from folks
whose only claim to singlehood seems to be legal. I can
sympathize with the problems of someone who doesn't know how to
deal with his/her last 34 significant others when they all show
up at the same party, but only in an avuncular or even voyeuristic
fashion. What I'd really like to know is how they attracted number 35.
The basic problem is just meeting people. This is always difficult,
but after you get out of school, the problem becomes (about)
1.24503 X 10E+06 times worse. Given a large enough pool of MOTAS
in which to mingle and enough time to do the mingling, even the
least competent of us could probably find at least one person for to
go strolling with on moonlight beaches and perform other acts of
pleasant non-solitary diversion.
So, friends and neightbors, what activities were you engaged in
when you found yourself suddenly significantly othered? Was it
serendipity or were you actually on the prowl?
Well, enough. I want to leave time to read net.parthenogenesis.
As they say, familiarity breeds attempt.
