Guidelines for net.sexuality.stories

Introduction

net.sexuality.stories is a moderated forum for an author to post
erotica in Usenet II. Besides the rules governing all of net.*,
and the rules for net.sexuality.*, net.sexuality.stories has some
additional rules.

Guidelines

In the style of the RFCs, the rules are presented here in four
categories. The MUSTs and MUST NOTs are requirements. The SHOULDs
and SHOULD NOTs are recommendations.

All posts MUST:
(1) Be some sort of story or poem.
Rationale: definition of a topical post.

(2) Be posted by the original author. Excluded from this
are copyright free materials over 75 years old.
Rationale: Only the original author is likely to know
the copyright restrictions.

(3) Be formatted in a manner easily readable in all
standard news software. This particularly means
that lines MUST be shorter than 75 columns, lines
MUST not alternate in a long short jagged fashion,
and paragraphs MUST be clearly delimited.
Rationale: interoperability between different systems.

All posts SHOULD:
(1) Employ some sort of warning or keyword system to
indicate the sexual content of the material. See
below for suggested keywords.
Rationale: some people find some topics disturbing and
will want to avoid them.

(2) Include a statement of copyright license. Posts
that state they may be publicly archived will be.
Rationale: clarity on this matter makes things easier
for all involved.

(3) Have paragraphs separated by blank lines.
Rationale: this is an electronic formating convention
that improves readability.

All posts SHOULD NOT:
(1) Be excessively reposted. Once per year is probably
a good limit.
Rationale: newsgroups are not intended to carry things
indefinitely, that is what the web is for.

(2) Have characters with full names that might be mistaken
for real, living people.
Rationale: to prevent the accidental impression that
the story is about some independent person.

(3) Be longer than 150k.
Rationale: it is quite reasonable to break a longer
piece into parts before posting, and smaller posts are
likely to propagate better.

All posts MUST NOT:
(1) Be crossposted.
Rationale: basic group tenant.

(2) Be the work of another person (excluding copyright free
work over 75 years old).
Rationale: avoid accidental or deliberate misunderstandings
of copyright license.

(3) Be longer than 300k.
Rationale: it is quite reasonable to break a longer
piece into parts before posting, and smaller posts are
likely to propagate better.

If no Followup-To: header is provided with the post, one will be
added pointing to net.sexuality.stories.discuss. No post will be
sent with followups directed to net.sexuality.stories or out of
net.sexuality.*.

Keywords

It is strongly advised that any post which includes non-consensual
sexual acts, sexual acts involving a minor, or extreme violence be
clearly labeled as having such content. Here are some suggested
keywords for use in labeling material.

Strongly recommended:

Feel free to add others if these do not fit well. Try not to use
abbreviations not listed here, though. The purpose of keywords is to help
match readers with topics interest them (or help them avoid topics that
offend them). If something is very minor in the overall scheme of a work,
you are probably best not including a keyword for it, but apply them as
you see fit.
