I just returned from a diving vacation in Australia and the diving
was incredible. Visibility was 100 plus and the water temperature
around 80 degrees. I went on a 10 day trip on a 55 foot yaht. Since
the best diving we did was on reefs in the Northern Coral Sea I
recommend a minimum of 8 days since it takes a day to get out and
another day to get back.
I saved around $1800 by booking with a local (not advertized
nationally) outfit as compared to the Dive Australia and Sea & Sea
dive packages that are easier to get information on. I highly
recommend the Boat I went on which was built and run by:

Peter Wright
9 Balzer Close
Cairns, Australia 4870
Ph (011) 70 53-4152

The Scheherazade carries a maximum of 6 passengers, his
wife is an excellent cook.
Sea Life is plentiful, all forms of tropical fish, large
groupers, moray eels, lion fish, turtles, white tip and reef sharks.
You can do day trips out of Port Douglas going up to the
Ribbon Reefs.
