Several years ago I was playing in a club game with a partner of only
moderate experience (~25 master points). A husband/wife pair in their
late 50s came to the table. I fanned my hand and noticed that it
was all red. Yes, I had (both vul)

Pondering this collection, I finally decided to open 5D. The auction
proceeded (after some slight squirming on my left) 5S, 6D, DOUBLE
(quite loudly), Pass (by me), 6S (after more squirming), P P back to
me. Theory says don't bid, but I was sure that the loud double
would prevent the husband from bidding again. So, I called 7D and
sure enough it went P P DOUBLE! (All pass)

The opening lead was a black card and the dummy hit with

I couldn't help blurting out "Damn, we're in the wrong suit". It turned
out that the hearts were 5-0 and 7H would not fetch. However,
I was gin for 7D* which I duly claimed. Opening the traveler,
we had the only N-S plus, with 6S* being a common E-W result. What
still amazes me about this hand is why someone would be in such a hurry
to double with a void!
