I'm currently working on a small project concerning a
special-purpose computing machine that would be based on some form of
large, fast storage device. Both rotational (disk/drum) and
solid-state (bubble mem's, CCD's, etc.) devices have been put forth
as suggestions, and I'm interested in looking at both.

Due to the types of work, we only need information on what any
of you out there in net-land consider to be the HIGHEST-PERFORMANCE
commercially available equipment of any classification; at this stage
of things, cost is not too much of a consideration.

We need the following types of information:

ROTATIONAL
- total capacity
- organization (tracks/sectors/cylinders, etc.)
- rotational latency/speed
- minimum/maximum seek times
- maximum transfer rate
- number/placement of R/W heads
- approximate cost

SOLID_STATE
- total capacity
- access times/cycle times
- power requirements
- single ports/multiple ports
- approximate cost
- any special requirements for the technology in question

I realize this is somewhat of a tall order; any help at well
will be GREATLY appreciated!. If, for some strange reason, anyone is
interested in the results of this little survey, let me know and I'll
get the results to you when they're in.

Many anticipatory thanks to all who help!!!!!
