I'm currently working on installing News 2.11 on mit-eddie. I need to
set up the mailpaths file so that it lists the backbone site to which
our moderated group postings should be mailed.

Two questions:

1) There doesn't seem to be a list of backbone sites included
in the distribution. How do I know which sites qualify
(i.e. have the necessary aliases set up)

2) Which backbone site (or subset of the backbone sites) should
Internet hosts send to?

Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to specify different hostnames
for mailing (i.e. a domain-style hostname) and paths (i.e. a
uucp-style hostname). Several MIT sites have this difficulty. Is
there an easy way to handle this, or should we start putting
domain-style address into news paths?

The question posed was what sites are suitable for use in the "mailpaths"
file expected by 2.11 news.

I will be posting something to mod.newslists and news.admin sometime
in the next week.

In the meantime, "gatech", "seismo", and "clyde" are all appropriate
choices for both the "backbone" and "internet" fields in the
mailpaths file.
