I am attempting to build a small recording out of my garage and
an ajoining room to it (the control room). I would like some
info on some low cost ways of soundproofing them. I looked into
acoustic paneling but the price is like $100 panel, far too
much for the amount of space I have to treat. If anyone has any
suggestions please send them to:

I posted since your return path was INCREDIBLY long. Friends
of mine have used egg carton packing material for soundproofing a
room. You know -- that blue foam rubber stuff. I'm told it is
remarkably effective! Just tack it to the walls.

If you decide to use egg carton packing material, beware
that this stuff is extremely flammable. You might check
with your local building code about whether or not this
stuff has to be covered with firewall material, or can even
be used at all in building walls. You may be better off
putting up new interior walls that are separate from walls
of what you're trying to isolate, i.e. put up another
set of studs for true double-wall construction.
