Yes, Joe Bob is dead (yea!). It seems the man who wrote the column
for the Dallas Times-Hearld went a little overboard with his parody
on "We Are The World" by USA AFRICA in his most recent column.
He has written a spoof called "We Are The Weird." Many people in
the Dallas area got, shall we say, irritated (yeah, and WWI was the
war to end all wars). People stormed the newspaper offices and had a
meeting with the columnist and the editor. The columnist (John Bloom)
still works for the paper, but Joe Bob will not be heard from again.
Now, on the chance that I'll be flamed, do any of you who used to
post Joe Bob (did you actually type that in or did you scarf it off
of some news service?) still get on-line copies? Yes, I know it's
against copyright to post it (read: DON'T POST IT!! But I would like
to know what all the fuss is over (they only repeated a few lines
on TV). If someone has it or can easily get it, I would appreciate
their mailing me a copy. Don't go typing it in, though (I get the
impression that it's not worth it!).
I am absolutely NOT a fan of Joe Bob Briggs, nor do I in any way
condone this column, I simply want to read it for myself. It is
a fact, however, that I am genuinely offended by very little, and
can usually appreciate what little humor might exist in anything,
regardless of how tasteless it may be.
