How about net.geneology where people interested in family research could
exchange information and ideas.

I second the idea of a newsgroup for family research. But the name is spelled
"genealogy", not "geneology." (What happens if people post to the misspelled
group name? Does the article get lost? Maybe the new newsgroup should be
net.family).

I propose that the newsgroup be created with the name net.genes, to avoid the
problem that will arise with the "odd" spelling of genealogy. Or net.jeans,
but you never know what might wind up in THAT...

I'm not expressing an opinion either way about a genealogy newsgroup, but
given the possible confusion with misspellings (geneology?) and mis-
interpretation (net.genes = genetics), how about:

net.roots

This is another yes vote for net.gene or net.roots. Is someone keeping track
of yes and no votes so we can make a case for forming a group?

Yet another vote for net.roots. I think it's a unique opportunity. We
may all be related!

I also vote for net.roots, net.genealogy, net.ancestry, net.relatives, or
whatever it would be named, as long as the discussion area is genealogical.
