Does anybody know the origin of the word 'ARGO'? It was the name of
Jason's ship as he and the argonauts sought the Golden Fleece. What
did he name the boat after? His dog?:-)

Thanks.

The city where the ship was built. Its near the Isthmus of
Corinth. It was a fairly important city state in ancient times.

Probably from his mother's box of Argo corn starch.

Ah, gee. I thought Jason named his ship after that city in Illinois
where the corn starch is made. A buddy of mine played high school
basketball there. Their nickname? What else? The Argonauts.

According to Bullfinch's Mythology, the Argo was named after Argus,
who was commissioned by Jason to build the ship.
