The PBS special "Entrepreneurs" (an excellent show, I'd recommend
it) spent 15 minutes on Steve Jobs and the 1st 6 months of NeXT.
This included filming two fairly open retreats in Pebble Beach
with the approximately 15 employees.

Jobs said the company must ship their advanced technology product
(technology unspecified) at $3,000 by Spring 1987. The former is
the price that excites universities; Jobs said the purchasing
window for universities is during the summer, once per year,
and if they miss Summer 1987 they lose a year and lose credibility.

Jobs spent $7 million for 70% of stock, and the company was spending
that money faster than budgeted (sounds like a lot of ex-Apple
employees who went from a Fortune 500 company to a startup).
On the technology, monochrome was implied, and the buzzwords "C shell"
and "Smalltalk" were used.
