Beginning with this month's posting of the UUCP map (which started
today and will run for about a week) there is a new feature.

In parallel to the u.* files there is now a set of d.* files.
These files list domains for officially registered UUCP domains.
The intent is that the d.* files will grow and the u.* files will
shrink over time. We'll probably begin to remove entries from the
u.* files, when they have a domain in a d.* file. We encourage
domain sites to update their d.* file rather than the u.* file.

If you're receiving the map, you may want to change your pathalias
command to use d.* u.* rather than just u.*. You have the choice
of using only u, only d, or both. There is no reason to use only
u, since the d.* files will not interfere even with very old software.
The d.* files are self sufficient, but since there are currently only
about 40 UUCP domains, you'll still need the u.* files for quite some
time.

This is a reminder that registration for UUCP domains is still being
processed for no charge. A charge is likely to go into effect sometime
in the next few months. You can find the registration information
in the INFO.REGISTRY file in the smail distribution; if you missed
the smail distribution (posted to mod.sources in early September)
you can get it from a mod.sources archive.
