I'm looking for a vendor which sells DECNET for either BSD and/or sysV Unix.
I know about Ultrix-Decnet, we have it running and are reasonably satisfied.

I thought I had seen a reference to a company which was marketing such
a product, but I can't find the reference now.

I believe SUN just announced Decnet for their products this past week.
You don't say if this is for an existing system or a criteria for
buying a new system.

Sun just announced a DECnet product. DECnet Phase IV compatible. Ethernet
support. For info on the Sun product, contact Donna Horton at 415-691-7591
or send me some email.

The Sun product was ported from a TCI (Technology Concepts Inc.) source
code implementation of the DECnet protocols written in C for Unix.
For info on the TCI source, contact Gigi Wang at 617-443-7311.

*DECnet is a trademark of Digital Equipment Corporation.

The only source for Decnet protocols for Unix (or any other
os besides those from Dec!) is:

Technology Concepts
40 Tall Pine Drive
Sudbury, Mass. 01776
(617) 443-7311

We have spoke with a Gigi Wang who is their marketing director.

The package looks like good stuff and appears to be portable if
you use their Ethernet drivers. They provide remote login and
file transfer using Decnet protocols over Ethernet. I think
they have implemented two of the Decnet protocols (?) to
do this...

Hope this helps.

Technology Concepts
40 Tall Pine Dr.
Sudbury MA 01776

sells a product called CommUnity, which is supposed to be compatible
with DECnet. When it first was announced, it was called Portable DECnet,
but I guess DEC made them change the name. The current literature says
that it is portable to any OS, and they have implemented it on 68K,
80186 and PC systems running DOS, 4.2BSD, and UNIX sV. The early
announcements (3/85) that I saw claimed that it ran on VRTX and pSOS,
but these are no longer mentioned in later literature.

I believe that the DECnet implementation announced recently by Sun is
based on this product. Perhaps someone from Sun can give us more details.

I called these people this week and found out the following.

1) except for the MS-DOS version they only sell to OEMs
2) we were interested in the product running on a 3b2
The response from Technology Concepts was:
a) AT&T had been approached with no sucess
b) There was some question as to which section of AT&T should
be approached.

If anyone from AT&T or AT&T-IS is listening could they respond please.
It would seem to me that a number of places who had both 3bxs and VAXEN
might be interested in obtaining this. We certainly would be!!

Thanks for any responses
