I feel very strongly that there should be some sort of warning
either in the "Subject" or "Keywords" header of all those running
puns. It doesn't take anytime to add this to a followup and it would
save a many people a LOT of aggravation.

what do the rest of you think?

how should all the net.joke(rs) be notified? I'm sure most
of them don't read net.jokes.d ...Perhaps a one-time posting to net.jokes???

It won't work. I use rn to read the net -- among other things, it has
a neat little feature called 'kill' to junk all articles which have a
certain subject. Those people who perpetuate the running puns know
about such features and deliberately change the subject line to get
around them. In other words, they *want* their addition to a running
pun to be read (or at least seen) by others, so they aren't going to
make it any easier for people to skip over it.

I agree that the running "jokes" are/can be aggravating, and I wish
that there were some way to skip them easily, but I don't think that
their perpetuators will be of any help.

I agree. The running puns are sometimes funny, but when I'm at home
looking at the news at 300 baud (I know, don't laugh) I just go watch
a few movies while waiting for the puns to come up. And there's never
any warning that puns are comming up. Something should be done.

It's terrible to admit that Merlin, the Great Wizard, is powerless to
stop the punsters on the net.
