OK, here are the new ICANN directors:
http://www.icann.org/general/new-director-bios-28oct99.htm

* 3 people I don't know from the Address Supporting Organization.
They seem to have been around RIPE and other such groups (research
and education networks, and the like) for a while. Which I suppose
I see as a good thing on balance although it is hard to say without
knowing the individuals.

* Domain Name Supporting Organization:
- Amadeu Abril i Abril. Interesting background - legal background
and involvement in DNS politics and the net for a while. Been
advocating a TLD for the Catalan language (which may or may not
make much sense but which is kind of an interesting perspective).
All in all strikes me (again, from the bio) as being a
refreshingly different perspective from the usual trademark nuts
and people who want to run the internet (or have been doing so)
and so on.
- Jonathan Cohen. Looks like a trademark nut from the bio.
- Alejandro Pisanty. Academic/research/education-network
background. Same reaction as the Address Supporting Organization
folks.

* Protocol Supporting Organization:
- Vint Cerf, who we've been talking about on this group a fair
amount as a key person behind the old boy's network which drove ICANN.
- Jean-Francois Abramatic of W3C. Don't know him in particular but
I have a generally favorable opinion of the W3C.
- Philip Davidson - no bio posted yet, and I don't know him.

Ken Fockler is the grand old man of Canadian networking having been involved
with the creation of the canadian backbone CA*net and .CA. He's
honest, fair, neutral and objective. He actually sais, while
speaking at a 1997 ITAA conference in DC "I'gve been impressed
by the articulation of the alternative TLD people and think
they should be given a chance to prove themselevs" whioch caused
Willie "Niminet" Black to shoot a look across the table to
Bob "ITU" Shaw that read like "WHAT ? You said this couldnt happen?"
Shaw shot back a look that was a combination of blushing and shrugging.

Pindar is ok.

Understatement.

Unknown.

The annoying thing is these guys havn't been around that long. I don't
think you can find a posting of theirs over a year old. They got
elected by the deals they made within the DNSO names council. I mean
is it just me or are Karl Aurbach and Don Telage a little bit
more experieced?

Bleh.

Ken is our only hope. At least we'll know what the hell is going
on in those board meetings.
