Legion of Super-Heroes #105 "The Crucible Of Time"
Multi-dimensional spoilers....
"Time Won't Let Me": I'll forgo the "Who's Who" bits which make up most
of the issue, since I'm sure others can get those threads going, with one
exception: is Lounge Lizard Rokk from a storyline I missed, or created of
whole cloth by Peyer and Stern?
The plot is a pretty thin one. The Time Trapper has all sorts of
alternate Legions in one big featureless area and has them fighting each
other (something helped by the presence of less-pleasant alternate versions,
including a whole batch of Image-style Legionnaires). The jaunters from
Legionnaires #61 try to stop the Trapper's plans, first from outside looking
in, and then from inside once Lori's gambit against the Trapper (during which
she briefly becomes a sort of Glorith) pays off. Lots of fighting, lots of
grist for future character development ("In another world, I would have done
WHAT?" stuff), but not much this time out except the fun of seeing alternate
Legions duke it out and interact. It was also nice to see the "wimpy
Legionnaires" get their due...Tenz, Chuck and Nura kick some serious butt
with just their grit, determination and training.
Finally, everyone left gangs up on the Time Trapper, who then sends them
home, having determined that they succeeded at this test as well. He's
grooming them for some future conflict (which to him is a past conflict, I
suppose, being at the end of time and all). The only potential problem with
this is that there's now been so much build-up that almost anything the
writers can think of for the Time Trapper's crisis is going to be a
let-down. They gots their work cut out for them.
Meanwhile, the Lori plot seems close to some kind of resolution. XS saw
her use the Dial (and it's revealed that the Trapper gave it to her), and the
Trapper has messed with the Dial, so something's bound to happen soon.
