Greetings, world. I've heard tell that there is a version of PC-Rogue
loose in the world. Is this true? Is the source PD? Could someone send
me the source, or if there is much interest, post it to the net?

Thanks, and happy rogueing!!

The version of PC Rogue to which you undoubtedly refer is marketed by
Epyx. It is identical to the original PC Rogue which was marketed by
A.I. Design, which made a distribution agreement with Epyx. It is
based on the original source, which isn't surprising since Mike Toy
works for Epyx. The source for this is, not surprisingly, not
available.

There IS a version of Rogue available for the PC. It is available
from Epyx, Inc., I believe. There used to be one available from an outfit
called Artificial Intelligence Design, in Mountain View, CA., but I don't
know if they are still selling it or what.
Your best bet is to get a copy of HACK for the PC, which is available
for downloading from my bulletin board system, number shown below. HACK is
a better game than Rogue, anyhow, and IS a PD program (I have sources on the
BBS, as well as the game itself).
If all else fails, and you can't get HACK any other way, drop me
email and I'll let you know how to get it directly from me.

Of course you didn't answer his question...
PC-Rogue is not public-domain, nor can you get the source to it because
Epyx NOW owns the copyright.

HACK is NOT public-domain, rather, the author has allowed distribution
of it. Anyhow, HACK is NOT better than Rogue.

The Epyx version of Rogue is the one from AI Design -- they are simply the
distributors. Rogue is NOT Public Domain, and it never has been. Sources
to Rogue are not available.

If you want sources, get the hack sources. If you just want to play, either
download PC-Hack or buy the AI version of rogue.
